Welcome to the world of REALITY TV “SACH KA SAMNA” as they call…..(Hindi version of moment of truth)
I got really shocked on that day when I got the chance of witnessing this show, how RAJIV KHANDELWAL keeps on asking questions ( while seating in the hot seat) about personal lives of contestants, for which they are being paid with a high price money for each stage, show really did caught my interest as I was wondering to see how contestants were so comfortable in replying questions which were being asked related to their personal life and being awarded for the correct reply with a definite amount of money depending upon the type of questions which would be ultimately related to their personal lives which a common man would never imagine in his dreams to share in publics. It was really shocking to see how people could sell their emotions just to earn a heck lot of money!!!!!!!!But that’s the reality of these reality shows now days.
Be it a rivalry between the judges or back bitting among the contestants, these reality shows are really becoming the parts of our lives no doubt. The success of these shows lies on the pleasure and eagerness they provide to the audiences from the real life cum dramatic situation, which they provide in front of camera and is appealing to every viewers who witnesses it.
The concept of reality shows is not new in India. 10 years before the show named KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI hosted by BIG B came and it became such a big talk of the town that it became no.1 T.V. Reality show within months breaking all records of TV shows ever produced giving directors and producers idea to work more on the “reality concept”. The concept of becoming millionaire in just 1 hour by answering ten questions appealed to every viewer’s heart. Since then the time has changed and that there are lots of such reality shows which has lined up in coming years.
But the main question now arises? How much reality these reality tv shows really possess now a days? I really feel that some reality shows would have got some reality hidden in them but the rest are all just a means to make money by the producers which gambles with the innocence of viewer’s who back home is unaware of gimmicks of the games being played by the producers back stage. How many of us are there who wouldn’t have witnessed a single reality show? The answer is sincerely “no” because every 3rd daily soap now is a reality show!
There is no unhidden fact that the Indian television has witnessed a whopping number of reality shows in past few years that are being and have been being telecasted like Roadies, Indian idol, Dance India Dance, Kids Antakshari and many to name which are aimed to promote young talents of India, have topped the list recently in the reality shows. It would be fair enough to say that reality shows do have changed the entire picture of Indian television industry now as far as earning of more and more TRP’s is concerned among the tv shows, in order to remain in competition hence in that case safeguarding the audience interest which can be in any form is justified as far as the boundaries of social moral values is not crossed. Talking about the degree to which these reality shows promises to provide reality on TV, producers say “as far as the question of reality is concerned we are totally unbiased from our part, way the things go in front of the camera have nothing to do with our involvement and hence there is no element of doubt of the show being preset.
My general opinion-- I think if reality shows are gaining popularity day by day is so because ultimately it’s the viewers who are making it so. We are all educated and sound and hence have the common sense of judging the reality concerned with the particular reality show. I don’t find any wrongness or unfair on any ones part as far as what is being shown in TV as it is able to meet the expectations of healthy entertainment keeping in mind our socio-ethical boundaries and to that without hurting the sentiments related to ones caste, creed or community. Viewers should be selective in what to and what not to watch.
Tv critics says “there is no harm in growing rate of reality shows as long as they don’t possess any wrong attitudes towards society or create any sense of unrest among community that would result in any sort of tension in the society and hence are justified even if there is no element of reality related to it, the main aim should solely be to just provide interest to the audience under legal conditions”.
Recently there is a show of Rakhi Sawant “RAKHI KA SWAYAMWAR” which gained astonishing TRP 10 during its first week of telecast and was seen as the reality show in which Rakhi was undergoing a traditional grand wedding ceremony by selecting the bridegroom of her choice out of seven young lads. The interesting ‘x-factor’ involved with this show that hold on every ones curiosity was that that this type of television-cum wedding was never being witnessed by anyone before which makes everyone eager to find out what’s there in that. It didn’t took me more than few days to found out that there is no realness associated in that show when its first few shows were telecasted on TV and I expect everyone would have also sensed the same, as it was clear that if it would have been real then auditions would have been conducted many days before its shooting. Every one knew that it was a full fledged publicity stunt by RAKHI apart from showing dramatic “rona-dhona” and “roothna manana” type “nautanki”, the reality was far miles to be found!!!!!!!
The melodrama or “nautanki” we say involved in reality shows are day by day becoming an all time success mantra in holding the nerves of every viewer. We can expect that there is a big empire of reality TV shows emerging in the forthcoming years which would be ruling the TELEVISION WORLD!!!
